Match Report

After a heavy defeat mid week it was a real test of character for Wrockwardine Wood against a high flying Dawley side.

Skipper Barrie Davies lost the toss meaning the wood were defending the first half against a swirling wind making it difficult dealing with long balls.

Dawley piled on the pressure in the first half but were resticted to just long shots that sailed harmlessly wide or over.

Dawley took the lead though mid way through the first half when defender David Bolton passed it back to Lewis Ayres in the wood goal. unfortunately for Lewis he was put under pressure and his kick went straight to a Dawley player who squared it for them to score in an empty net.

Lewis Ayres did however make up for the error and produced a superb safe moments later when a shot goal bound for the bottom left hand corner was diverted just passed the post via the keepers out stretched foot keeping the game 1-0 at half time.

With the risk of a cliche it was a game of 2 halfs with the wind behind the wood at the change over, Phil Barnett and Ian Preece's pace causing no end of problems for the Dawley back 4.

It was however a set piece that levelled the game for the wood. A free kick from Wrockwardines' left hand side was whipped in with pace by John Bolton and Graham Davies got a clever flick on the ball to nestle it into the bottom corner.

Wrockwardine had chances to win it in the last 15 Mike Omotosho blazing a shot over and Paul Saxton and Phil Barnett also going close.

In truth the game was not much of a spectacle and a draw was probably a fair result in the end, only one defeat in four now for the wood, but the first win is still proving elusive.
